Today was a hike from the mountain hut down to Lake Bohinj and a rental house we had reserved in Ribčev Laz. Thus, our hike was almost all downhill. After yesterday's trek, today was an easy walk. The trail was almost entirely downhill - we descended over 3500'. There was a long series of switchbacks that let us down the mountainside. Given the elevation change, I was surprised how many hikers we encountered who were coming up the trail. Apparently there were plenty of day hikers out on a trail with 3500' of elevation. It was when one of these upward-bound hiking couples encountered Melanie that she stepped to the side to let them pass. A small rock rolled under her foot as she resumed hiking downhill and she landed in a face plant. Despite a bloody nose and some shallow scrapes on her arm, no grievous injury resulted.
At the end of the descent, we were at Koča pri Savici. Since they sold food, it seemed like an ideal spot to stop for lunch. I bought an ice cream bar
and diet coke - no better fuel for trekking!.
The rest of the day was spent walking along the north shore of Lake Bohinj. This provided us with some spectacular views of the lake. The weather was ideal and
the lake reflected the blue sky above.
Our rental house was about 1 Km on the outskirts of Ribčev Laz. It seemed like a really nice 3 bedroom home, with a big kitchen, laundry room, and outdoor patio.
Unfortunately, it was Sunday, so the markets were all closed. However, there was a convenience store open (until 6 P.M.) in the nearby town of Stara Fužina, so I walked out there to pick up such dire necessities
such as beer and diet coke. We settled in to our rental, our home for the next three nights.
