Today was our first day of trekking in the Julian Alps. We rode the free green shuttle from Bled out to the end of the line, which dropped us off at the
trailhead near Hotel Center Pokljuka. There is only one morning green shuttle, so I was glad that we caught it. The weather was a fine day, sunny but not hot. Ideal for hiking.
The trail immediately went up a steep slope, which was a bit of a slog. I think this was a ski slope. But soon we climbed up above the tree-line and
found ourselves walking through scenic landscape, with low mountains around us. When we came to a fork in the trail, Anthony suggested that we hike up to the overlook to the viewpoint, which
I later learned was called Srenjski preval. The view from the top of the pass was impressive - we looked across a steep bowl that was surrounded by steep sided mountains. We could see a trail
going up the opposite side of the bowl. I didn't know it, but tomorrow we would be climbing that trail on our way to dom Planika hut. We hiked further along the trail and came to another viewpoint that looked out over a deep canyon. There was a sheer-sided cliff on the other side of the
canyon, it looked more impressive in real life than it does in my pictures. Further hiking brought us to the mountain hut named the Bled Lodge at Lipanca. We stopped there for a late lunch. From there, it was all the way down hill to
the Hotel Pokljuka, which turned out to be a nice place. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant that night.
