We woke up this morning at the Scandic Hotel near the Oslo airport. A short shuttle ride took us back to the airport, and we caught our Scandinavian Airline flight to
Bodø. We landed at 10:05 and had to catch the 11:00 AM ferry to the Lofoten Islands. Fortunately, no bags had been lost in transit. Anneka had magically procurred a taxi-van that got us to the ferry terminal
in plenty of time. The ferry ride took over three hours to cross the huge Vestfjorden. The Lofoten Islands appeared ahead, and we pulled into the Moskenes terminal. Anneka had rented a small van for us, and
it was right there, ready and waiting in the terminal parking lot. We drove to our rental lodging in Reine and used the key code to enter a nice cottage. It seemed like a minor miracle that all of the travel logistics of this day worked out so well!
Just outside of Reine is a short, steep hike up to a viewpoint on top of Reinebringen. The viewpoint in popular with all the tourists, which meant that the trail used to be
so eroded it had become dangerous. Norway installed stone steps from the trailhead all the way to the top. It was an impressive feat of trailbuilding. I got a bit tired climbing all of those steps - I was trying to
count them - my total was 1478 steps, but that may not be an accurate number.
The stunning views from the top are why every Lofoten Island visitor makes this climb. The scenic Lofoten islands stretch into the distance. Nearby are fjords, peaks and
the town of Reine. I took a lot of pictures.
There are a couple of small parking lots for the Reinebringen trailhead, and they are always jammed due to the popularity of the hike. We ended up with paid parking in the town of Reine by the Culture Center and walking
to the start of the hike. There are some nice views from the picturesque town of Reine.
