We didn't have anything planned for today, after our gigantic hike yesterday on the Fimmvörđuhál trail. We ate a huge buffet breakfast, then hung out in the room. Weather had predicted potential rainfall this day, but no drops fell.
There was a short 2 Km walk to the nearby Kvernufoss, which is one of the waterfalls that you can walk behind. We left our heavy packs at Hotel Skógá and walked over to have a look. It is indeed an impressive waterfall. Kvernufoss is 98 feet tall, and is in a narrow Kvernugil gorge carved by the Kverna river. There
weren't a whole lot of people there, so I was able to get photos without other tourists appearing in some of the frames.
There were birds nesting on the cliff walls around Kvernufoss. I think that they are fulmars, a common sea bird in Iceland. I tried to capture them at maximum zoom on my camera. We walked back to Hotel Skogafoss, and eventually met Anthony, Anneka, Paul and Leslie as they completed the trek. Anthony, Paul and Leslie had a fish and chips for lunch. Anneka, Melanie and I ate an early dinner back at Hotel Skogafoss.
There was a LOONNNNGG wait for the Straeto bus. We were the first in line at the blue sign, eventually I counted 26 people waiting to board. When the bus finally showed up, 50 minutes late, there was a scramble by everyone to get on board. But it turned out that there were enough seats for everyone.
