We rented an apartment in Poprad for 5 nights. Poprad is an ideal base for visiting the High Tatras mountains, and also for hikes in Slovenský raj National Park. Also, the huge ruin of Spis castle is nearby, it is worth touring for an afternoon. Spis castle is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Poprad itself doesn't have much in the way of tourist attractions. There is a water park (Aqua City), but we didn't have the energy to visit it - we were too tired each evening after our long day hikes! There are a few old buildings in a nice old town area - the center street of this preserved section is pedestrian only, so it is a nice quiet place to walk in the evening. Our apartment was just a block south of this old town area, so it was easy in the evening to go out for a short stroll. Parking is a bit of a hassle in Poprad, so we just left the car in the apartment parking lot and walked everywhere we visited in Poprad. There are numerous gelato shops along this street.

There is a shopping mall at the western end of the old town area, it includes a food mart. We bought groceries here and made use of the kitchen in our apartment.
