Because the contours below Acadia Mountain Trail, leading to the shore, looked so tight (and thus steep), we decided to hike this loop in the counterclockwise direction, so that we would be going up the steep section rather than descending it.

Today was the easiest for hiking. We had hoped to meet Lil and her family on the Acadia Mountain Trail, but they opted to visit the historic Carroll homestead and do Junior Ranger activities with the grandkids instead. Reaching the summits of Acadia and Saint Sauveur is straightforward from the parking lot. On a clear day, the views are supposed to be quite nice, but it was completely socked in for us.

We spent a short time walking along one of the wide carriage roads. Built between 1913 and 1940, the carriage roads are wide paths meant for the rich to ride in horse drawn carriages through the marvelous forest. Today, the carriage roads are enjoyed by mountain bikers and e-cyclists. There is plenty of room for hikers too on the wide paths.

We also visited the famous Otter Point, a spot famous for watching the sunrise (the other famous spot for sunrise viewing is the summit of Cadillac Mountain). But since we were visiting in July, the sunrise was much to early for us to consider getting up. This area is also a nice Dark Sky viewing spot, without light pollution and a clear view up to much of the night sky. But we had clouds and rain during the nights of our visit.
