Grand and Castle Geysers We passed Grotto Geyser on the walk back from Riverside. It erupts unpredictably. We did
not witness an eruption, -but it was splashing actively, with steam venting out. We didn't pause here long, because we were hurrying to Grand Geyser, which was predicted to go
off soon. We also walked passed the cone for Giant Geyser, which only erupts rarely. Also along the boardwalk between Riverside and Grand Geyser is Beauty Pool. The park service predictions on Grand Geyser have a window of +/- one hour. My sister Rose had told me this was
a spectacular event, so advised me to bring a book a long and wait for a thrilling sight. It was good advice, because Grand
turned out to be more than an hour late. Of course, it was worth waiting for! While we were waiting, some elk went bounding by.
They seemed quite unafraid of humans - it certainly is safe with all the people around, which keeps the wolves away. Here are my best photos of the Grand Geyser eruption, certainly well worth waiting for. When Grand Geyser erupts, it also drives a plume out of nearby vents. You can sorta of make out Turban Geyser
in this picture, it is shooting out to the left side of the Grand spray. You should walk along the boardwalk during the long eruption
to get varying views. Just across the river from Grand Geyser is Castle Geyser. The Yellowstone rangers also predict when Castle will go
off, which is about once every 12 hours. We arrived at Castle in the evening, and waited for it to go off, hoping it wouldn't be so
late that night would fall. Fortunately, it was only about 45 minutes late.
