The same day we went to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon, we took a side trip to Anacortes.
The city of Anacortes is located on Fidalgo Island, the easternmost of the San Juan Islands. After stopping for visitor info, we went to Cap Sante for some views of Mount Baker and Padilla Bay.
Our next stop was Washington Park, a popular 220-acre park facing Rosario Strait. It features a loop road for walking, biking or driving and several trails through woods with better views of the Strait than can be had from the Loop Road in some places.
And finally, there was Mount Erie Park. Mount Erie is a conspicuous peak rising 1,300 feet above Anacortes. From its summit can be had spectacular views of the Skagit Valley and neighboring islands. The bottom images is a partial panorama from the summit.
